Our Story
Every school has a beginning. Ours started with a simple opportunity and a willingness to say yes.
Midtown Martial Arts was established in 2004 after a local YWCA Director reached out with an opportunity. The YWCA had an unused dance studio available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and asked if Taekwondo classes were still being taught. The response was simple: why not? What began in that small borrowed space with a handful of students quickly grew into something much larger. Word spread through families and friendships, and more students began showing up each week. It became clear that the program was filling a need in the community for structured, disciplined martial arts instruction grounded in strong values. As enrollment increased, we moved to the Whiteside Community Center where the gymnasium provided more room to train. Classes continued to grow, and with that growth came the realization that Midtown Martial Arts needed a permanent home. The demand for consistent mat space, expanded class offerings, and long-term stability led us to establish our own dedicated facility in Midtown Tulsa.Today, Midtown Martial Arts operates from the Ranch Acres Shopping Center near 41st and Harvard. While our space has evolved, our mission has remained the same: to build strong families through disciplined Taekwondo training rooted in respect, perseverance, and personal accountability. We are proud to serve students of all ages in a unified environment where character development matters just as much as physical skill. From a borrowed dance studio to a thriving community of families training side by side, Midtown Martial Arts has grown steadily through consistency, high standards, and a commitment to long-term impact. Our story continues to be written each time a student earns a belt, overcomes a challenge, or grows in confidence both on and off the mat.
